GE Appliances operates on a massive scale, producing thousands of home appliances every hour. With over 16,500 employees working across various sites, maintaining safety and efficiency in high-risk operations is a major priority. However, decentralized and inconsistent LOTO procedures posed challenges that could impact both efficiency and safety.
GE Appliances turned to Benchmark Gensuite to address the following with LOTO management:

Inconsistent Formats: Procedures varied widely, with multiple formats and no standardized visual cues, making it challenging for employees to understand at-a-glance.

Scattered Storage: LOTO documents were stored across different locations, making it difficult for teams to quickly find the right procedures for specific equipment.

Manual Inspections: Tracking and updating procedures was tedious and error-prone, often requiring physical inspections and handwritten updates.

GE Appliances needed a way to centralize LOTO procedures, eliminate errors, and make processes user-friendly and compliant across all sites.

All 10,000 LOTO procedures were standardized and stored digitally in a single, accessible location.

QR Code Access:
Each procedure received a unique QR code, allowing employees to instantly access the latest LOTO information by scanning the code on mobile devices or tablets. The QR codes ensure every employee can instantly access the correct procedure, reducing errors and time spent searching for the right document.

Customizable Templates:
Benchmark Gensuite provided flexibility in template design, ensuring that each procedure met GE Appliances' specific needs while maintaining consistency in structure and layout.

Automated Alerts for Inspections:
Digital tracking of inspection cycles helped ensure that every procedure stayed up-to-date without manual tracking.

By adopting a digital-first approach, GE Appliances moved away from physical documentation and storage, improving access and creating a single source of truth for LOTO procedures.

How It Works

The Integration Wizards Computer Vision technology uses artificial intelligence in the form of a convolutional neuro network (CNN) to create a virtual map that analyses the total operational area and configures alarms for specified hazards, using live CCTV camera feeds from onsite video monitoring systems.

When the Integration Wizard’s technology identifies those occurrences from the live camera footage, the details are automatically submitted via API into the Benchmark Gensuite platform.

A concern reporting form is then created and notifications are sent out to key team members so that personnel can take immediate action whenever non-compliances are flagged. GE Power is leveraging Benchmark Gensuite’s pre-built dashboards to provide safety leaders with a comprehensive overview of all safety concerns logged via various methods, including not only through computer vision but also through desktop and mobile devices, to gain unprecedented visibility into near misses and identify improvement areas more efficiently and systematically.
