In the past year, Artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked dramatic change throughout the business landscape, and the field of EHS & Sustainability is no exception. In that spirit, Benchmark Gensuite recently launched the first installment of its AI – for EHS + Sustainability Collaboration Forum on January 31st, bringing together industry leaders, practitioners, technical experts, and enthusiasts, fostering connections and collaboration among professionals in the EHS & Sustainability space.
The forum kicked-off with a welcome from R Mukund (Founder & CEO, Benchmark Gensuite) and Natasha Porter (Chief Customer Officer, Benchmark Gensuite) that set the stage for the forum and spoke of broad market trends for artificial intelligence (AI) in the EHS & Sustainability space. Attendees were introduced to the exclusive Benchmark Gensuite AI Collaboration Forum Linkedin page, providing a dedicated space for community members to share insights, pose questions, and engage with fellow EHS & Sustainability leaders.
The Power of AI
Acknowledging the response from the broader community toward generative AI, the forum underscored the rapid adoption of this technology worldwide. With ChatGPT reaching 100 million users within the first three months of its release, the discussion highlighted how generative AI is reshaping industries. And text generation is just the beginning, AI is starting to be incorporated into a diverse array of business interests from HR and corporate recruiting to sales & marketing to accounting. The results are clear—generative AI is here to stay.
Much of the forum explored the many opportunities for EHS & Sustainability to be “powered by AI.” This included AI’s effectiveness in assessing and monitoring risk, communicating performance, designing and developing risk mitigation programs and management systems, and operationalizing these initiatives. Attendees gained valuable insights into the transformative potential of AI in their industries.
Survey Insights, Customer Perspectives, and Expert Analysis
Chet Brandon (Corporate Director of Global EHS & Sustainability, GrafTech International) then shared results from the AI Collaboration Forum Survey conducted in December 2023. This survey delved into the opportunities, challenges, and risks perceived by customers, providing a real-world perspective on how AI can be harnessed in EHS & Sustainability functions.
“The EHS and Sustainability functions are about to get even more exciting and impactful because of the contribution mature AI and Deep Learning systems are going to bring. These systems will greatly enhance our understanding, use, and impact of the information currently locked in large masses of organizational data and hidden in the operating environment.
AI and Deep Learning will empower EHS and Sustainability Leaders to see and execute bold actions that drive transformative improvement to the protection and future success of the wide group of stakeholders.” – Chet Brandon
The survey results indicated that customers are looking to utilize AI in three key areas: improving user activities, pattern identification and enhanced insights, and suggesting recommended actions to identify near misses and prevent accidents. Check out the full survey results to learn more.
